thoughts

My dad wore slippers as shoes before it was cool.

It's okay, I'll just stand in this bush while you use the sidewalk.

so much stuffff

It has been crazy, three exams, a lab report, a lab group presentation, etc.
This Friday is Fair Trade Cafe! YAY!
& next Monday is my ten month anniversary. <3 Anthony.

I made some terrariums! :D
& also bought a hundred owls secondhand,
they are adorable.
some of them Anthony painted white for me. :D
I will have to post pictures soon.

I made a flyer for fair trade cafe!

I wish I had more time for fun crafty projects. :/
Also, I think my sewing machine needs a new tension disc.
How the heck do I fix THAT?!
The upper thread just makes loose loops around the bobbin.
It hurts my heart. :(

I need a cheat code for life.

Time flies by,
I have not been blogging.
I am sucking at sticking to enviro goals.
So, I am done 'setting goals.'
I make a lot of environmental decisions everyday.

I recycle almost everything, reuse A LOT.
I buy organic or local foods when I can.
I stopped using tampons.
I do not use paper/Styrofoam plates.
I do not buy body wash anymore.
I use environmentally friendly soaps, toothpaste, etc.
I usually unplug things when I am not using them.
I stopped using water bottles.
I stopped using/buying all plastic bottles,
if I buy a drink at a gas station - I buy something in glass.
I reuse bags from/at the grocery store or use my own.
I have discovered a lot..
there are so many other changes I have made that I cannot think of at the moment.

Perhaps there is one goal I should set,
I should try and use what I know to influence others to care a little more about the environment. Actually, not care per se, but be more aware and conscious of their actions. People need to be more aware of environmental consequences.

My last blog was a rant about global warming. I just want people to understand that caring for the environment is MORE than climate change, it is everyday behavior. The Earth needs preserved, and the climate is just an itty bitty portion.

This summer I started a shag rag rug. I brought it to school with me & I hope I get some free time to work on it. XD

Also, Tegan and Sara put their book series & CD on presale.
I really want to get the deluxe edition with a hand-made autographed ink blot, but it is soo darn expensive. pooo.

On another note, I worry that I am not doing enough 'work' in school. I wish there was an easy way to become motivated. Like, a cheat code for life. haha..

[EDIT]
Hbck of Notre Dame on Digital Cable DOES NOT always = Hunchback of Notre Dame. :(

RANT. Global Warming & Environmentalisms.

There are a great deal of people on Earth. There are varied opinions about 'Global Warming.'
1. Man-made
2. Political Scam
3. Nature
4. Utter dismissal

What do I care about global warming?
I do not.

I care about Earth.
The air, the water, the soil.
Our air IS polluted.
Our water IS polluted.
Our soil IS polluted.
Our water & soil are FILLED with garbage.

I care that when I walk down the street, I see empty potato chip bags, broken glass bottles, countless receipts, and aluminum cans.

Would you throw trash around your own home? (Okay, some of you, probably.)
Would you throw trash around another person's home? (Ditto.)
Earth is home to EVERYONE.

I care that animal species are dying off because of the TRASH that is put into our water.
I care that when chemicals are put down a sink drain those chemicals become a part of our soil, water, and air.

Would you drink everything that goes into your drains?
Would you shower in it?
Would you wash your dishes with it?
Would you use it to cook with?

I care that our planet will eventually run out of natural resources.

I care about future generations.
I care that they too can run through fields of grass.
I care that they too can play soccer on a soccer field.
I care that they too can have the option to exercise OUTDOORS.
...climb mountains, go bike riding (un-stationary), kayak, swim, BREATHE!!

I care that most people do not give a shit.

Earth has given you a home, so show it some love.

oh pommmm,

Pomegranate is sooo yummy. I am eating it by the handful!

School is going well so far. I discovered that a lot of people I know are actually in Pittsburgh now too!

The girl who sits beside me in my Foundations of Chemical Engineering class has been talking up "Dog Therapy Night." Every Tuesday night in the Cathedral of Learning, volunteers bring their therapy dogs for the college students to pet and cuddle as a stress relief. So, tonight I went and checked it out with an old friend. It was sooo worth it! They are all super adorable - ranging from a little Yorkie to a 210 lb. Mastiff!

I have been going to meetings for a club on campus called "Free the Planet." I feel badly because I have not really been going to any of the activities outside of the meetings. I really hope to help out more soon though! Speaking of the planet, the goals are going OKAY, not so hot, but okay. The Styrofoam thing was shot to hell at Red Robin when they brought me a styro to-go container. :( Last time it was plastic! & made of the plastic I can use to make shrinky dinks!

Speaking of making.. Anthony & I are hoping to take a silk screening class in late October/ early November! I have always wanted to silk screen. I usually just make stencils, but silk screening seems so glamorous & time consuming, at least to make the screen!

We will see what the future holds!

p.s.
My mom got another dog - a beagle puppy! Her name is Brandie & she is adoree-able!

live on, cactus man

AUGUST! See ya later!
* Stop drinking bottled water
* Stop eating high fructose corn syrup
* Unplug
* Invest in safer nail polish

I did not invest in a safer less-toxic nail polish, but I have not been using nail polish at all.

SEPTEMBER! Here I come!
* limit meat to eating out
* no styrofoam
* reuse paper
* eat more organic foods

I am trying to run more again, now that I have some free time.
& I need new pots for almost all my plants, but I don't want to buy them.. :(
I hope they don't die before I get bigger ones.

I have been going crazy!

Moved into my new apartment: It is sooo lovely with a huge bay window & neato fire place.

Blink-182 & Weezer. Ohhhh soooo glorious! I cannot even stand it.
I will post some pictures later. I took a disposable this time.
Who knows how those will turn out.. :D

Tomorrow morning at 8am I start classes. I am fairly excited about it.
I am a bit nervous. hah.. It is my first semester in the big city.
I only have my Russian Textbook so far, so I hope I do not need any of my others yet.

I do have class in this building though..

Harry Potter, here I come. hehe
(these pictures aren't mine, but awesome nonetheless..)

So August Goals, have they held up?
I have stopped drinking from plastic bottles. I purchased a klean kanteen and have been using it for about a week now. It is great! Unless it sits in the hot sun, the water stays pretty cold tooo! When I have to purchase drinks, I buy in glass bottles.
High Fructose Corn Syrup is almost unavoidable. I do so where I can, i.e. groceries. I have been testing out alternatives to the chocolate milk I looove so much. Light Chocolate Soy Milk from Silk is very delicious & doesn't even taste like soy. YUM!
I unplug my stuff as much as possible whenever I'm out for the day, or overnight.
However, I still did not invest in some environmentally friendly nail polish. I hope to by Bluestar by Priti nails, but at $12 a bottle, that is just tooo much for me right now. So, I have not been painting my nails. That is a step, right?

I still need to think of some new goals for next month! Greening my life is tough, but I have been making small changes here and there. If I think of anything, perhaps I'll include that in next months goals!

As a fun side-note, I bought Wreck This Journal by Keri Smith to keep me creatively sane for the semester. I cannnot wait to do this page.
